Traps are used to monitor or reduce the population of insects or other pests. They can be used against crawling, flying insects, mice, rats, cats, dogs, snakes, etc. Depending on the type of action of the trap, there are several classifications:

Glue Traps have a solid stand with baited or non-baited glue as an overlayer. These can be in the form of a tray, made out of wood, plastic or cardboard. The glue is not toxic or hazardous to the environment or pets. Such traps are ideal for use in households, warehouses and stores and also in areas where traditional traps cannot be used. They lure the "prey" which gets then trapped in the glue. The lure is often either food based or a sexual attractant (pheromone), or even both.

Mechanical traps are ideal for catching and exterminating rodents, mice, rats and moles. They can be used repetitively, being more economically viable than the glue ones. They are considered friendly traps since the pests are not hurt. Once caught, they can be released in a remote area out of the home or protected area they have infested. To increase the efficiency of the trap, bait must be used with them.

Electronic: have different forms of operation. For example, there are systems that emit sounds when a mechanical trap is triggered. Or some traps attract pests and then remove them with electric current.
